Compare IMVU Name Records Without Losing Account Context

Build a record you can check later

A useful name-history note contains more than a list of names. Keep the account identifier, observed username, record date, and the tool that supplied it together. This makes it easier to recognize a mismatch when you revisit the account later.

Compare observations in order

First confirm that two rows refer to the same account. Next compare their observation dates. Only then compare the names. If the tool does not expose a reliable account identifier, retain that uncertainty rather than assuming a match from similar spelling.

A later observation of Name B after Name A suggests a difference between those observations. It does not necessarily identify the precise rename time, every intervening name, or the reason for a change.

Avoid three common mistakes

1. Sorting name strings alphabetically and reading them as a chronological history.
2. Treating the day you ran a lookup as the day a name changed.
3. Inferring that an empty history means an account never changed its name.

Keep exported or handwritten notes private where they contain account identifiers. Use the information for your legitimate account-management needs, and avoid presenting incomplete observations as claims about a person.
